Pinhui Hsieh received his PhD degree from National Taiwan University in Taiwan in 2006. He was the director of R&D and engineering department of Crystal Apply technology, LTD (CAT) during 2009~2014. He helped CAT to develop 2 inch, 4 inch and 6 inch sapphire substrates and build patterned sapphire substrate (PSS) production lines. In 2014, he led his R&D team qualified the double-side polished 2 inch wafers, applying to the raw material of home button of the Apple IPhone 5S. Since Oct. 2014, he joined Fujian JINGAN Opto., Co (JA) as the CTO and managed the sapphire substrate business from crystal growing to PSS. In 2019, reported by the LED inside, JA was ranking the 1st sapphire substrate manufacturer in the world with its largest capacity and R&D ability. He was also shortlisted for the Fujian Hundred-Talents Plan in 2017 and awarded the first level talents of Quanzhou City in 2020.He has been a practical supervisor for graduate students at HUAQIAO University since 2015. He was also invited to be one of the academic committee member of the Xiamen Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and advanced Manufacturer since 2019. He and his team also received the 2021 T-SM Best Paper Award of IEEE.
