Son Van Nguyen is a Research Staff member at IBM Research -AI Hardware Research Center located at Polytechnique University at Albany College of Nano Science and Engineering in Albany, New York. Dr. Nguyen research is focus on electronic materials including ultra low dielectrics and Copper interconnects for future high-performance Nano-electronic logic and memory devices.

Dr. Nguyen received a B.A degree in Chemistry at State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1978 and a Ph.D. in Solid State Chemistry at Brown University in 1981. He worked at Exxon Research, Applied Materials, and IBM. He has been with IBM for more than 40 years and worked on various aspects of micro-nanoelectronics and storage devices including DRAM, CMOS, Thin film disk and Recording heads. He was the CTO for Blanket dielectric group at Applied Materials in 2002-2003, and a research Chemist for Exxon Research in 1980. He received many IEEE , IBM Corporate, Outstanding Technical Achievement awards including Extra Ordinary Research Accomplishment in low k dielectrics. He has over 265+ US and international issued/ patents and 175+ publications including many invited presentations at national and international conferences & universities, journals, and book chapters.
