ANST (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Shenzhen, China

Dr. Liming Zhang received his B.S. degree from Zhejiang University, China, in 1986, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1998.

From 1998 to 2025, Dr. Zhang worked in Silicon Valley, California. He began his career as a Senior Process Engineer in Technology Development at VLSI Technology / Philips Semiconductor. He subsequently joined Intel's D2, where he developed CMP processes, led the CMP Center of Excellence, and reduced reliability-limiting defects by more than two orders of magnitude as a Senior/Staff Process Engineer. He also co-chaired the Focus Team responsible for developing the 45 nm NOR Flash mid-section integration flow. From 2007 to 2008, he served as Group Leader for Wet Etch and Cleans.

From 2008 to 2025, Dr. Zhang was with Applied Materials, where he advanced from Principal Technologist in Thin Film Solar to Senior Manager, Director, and Senior Director within Applied Global Services (AGS). During this period, he led start-up matching and global yield task forces for solar turn-key factories, directed yield-focused consulting projects for customers worldwide, and drove the development and deployment of AI-based service capabilities. These efforts became a key pillar in expanding multi-billion-dollar service contracts across equipment platforms.

Dr. Zhang is currently the vice president of research and development at ANST (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd.. He is a recipient of Intel Achievement Award — Intel's highest honor — for his contributions to integration flow development, and he has also received multiple awards at Applied Materials. In addition, he was a frequent organizer of global CMP conferences in the early 2000s.
