摘要

The semiconductor industry, and in particular, front-end fabs as well as the equipment and software companies that serve them, have been industry leaders in developing information and control protocols. Beginning with the SECS and GEM standards, and moving more recently to Electronic Data Acquisition standards, SEMI has served as a platform to continue the push for advanced automation standards.

However, as we move into the era of consumer electronics and IoT as top market drivers, and as electronics manufacturing supply-chains become more complex, improvements and new standards are needed to allow for the adaptability, bandwidth and traceability that will keep electronics at the forefront of smart manufacturing.
