Dr. Makan Chen (Ph.D, MBA), Male, born 1963 in Xiamen, China, Senior Technical Sales Expert. Dr. Chen graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology, received Ph.D. at University of Sheffield, worked as Post-Doctor at Cambridge University. He was a leading research fellow at ABB Corporate Research Centre in the field of High Temperature Superconductivity. Dr. Chen joined ABB Semiconductors in 2004 with main duty on Design, Manufacturing and Business Development of high power semiconductors.

摘要

The advance in power electronics calls for power semiconductors with even higher power rating and improved long term reliability. This presentation focuses on the following.

  •  a new 1700V phase-leg IGBT module (LoPak) with optimized chip layout and module design to ensure uniform current sharing and with an operating temperature of 175°C, enabling transient overload, e.g. in wind power application
  •  the performance and application of LinPak phase-leg IGBT module platform with lowest ever stray inductances and high potential for traction application
  •  continued improvement in reliability of HiPak IGBT module achieved through a new robust passivation and implication for traction application
  •  development in StakPak Presspack IGBT/BiGT module with voltage rating up to 5200V and current potential beyond 4000A, enabling higher power VSC-HVDC application
  •  new generation IGCT with novel gate design, a technology platform successfully employed for Pumped Hydro and with potential for high power wind power application
  •  a new HVDC thyristor with voltage rating up to 8500V and rated current of 6250A at 7200V, with further reduced conduction losses and enhanced recovery performance.
